OpenAI and Microsoft are now bffs

OpenAI and Microsoft announce that OpenAI and Microsoft are extending their partnership in what some are reporting as a $10 billion-dollar investment.

The agreement means we could see ChatGBT built into Word, Outlook and other Microsoft products. The going theory is that once this has happened, we won’t be turning to Google for our answers and could take a massive slice out of Google’s traffic, if not render search obsolete.

This multi-year, multi-billion dollar investment from Microsoft follows their previous investments in 2019 and 2021.

Microsoft shares this vision and our values, and our partnership is instrumental to our progress.

As part of the added funding, Microsft laid out three main points for the partnership;

  • Supercomputing – Microsoft will increase our investments in specialized supercomputing systems to accelerate OpenAI’s research. They will also continue to build out Azure’s AI infrastructure to help customers build and deploy their AI applications at scale.
  • AI-powered experiences – Microsoft will deploy OpenAI’s models across its consumer and enterprise products and introduce new categories of digital experiences.
  • Exclusive cloud provider – As OpenAI’s exclusive cloud provider, Azure will power all OpenAI workloads across research, products and API services.

Is this the future of the internet or the current shiny toy like Metaverse was last year? Watch this space.
